Library Run 10K
June 8, 2019
Back for my third year in a row at this event. I love this event — and this town. So much fun and for a good cause.
My time in 2018 was a few seconds faster than my time in 2017, but I knew going into this one, that wasn’t the goal.
I was pushing Bryant in the stroller and just wanted to beat an hour. Spoiler alert: We did it!
We arrived in Tonganoxie and got checked in and ready to go.
We took some pre-race selfies and discussed strategy. Our strategy? Zoomin’ on ’em.
Kami was signed up for the 10K, but dropped to the 5K and ran solo. We met up at the finish and hung out, but Bryant and I needed some practice for THE BIG RACE (Father’s Day 4-mile coming up this Saturday), so we went out ahead.
Our first three miles were good — 8:18 / 8:25 / 8:46. We took a brief stop at the turnaround to get a drink and resituate in the stroller. This involved ditching the shoes and socks — his, not mine — and continuing along the way.
Our next three miles were slower — 10:40 / 10:28 / 9:29. But we knew we had some time in the bank and should hit our goal with a small amount to spare.
With about half a block to go, I peeled off, got B out of the stroller and walked across the finish holding hands with the kid. Wish someone had gotten a photo of that. Sure was a fun thing we did.
In any event, I had a good time as expected. Team Mead will certainly be back to the Tonganoxie Library Run in 2020 and beyond.
